SCF Group’s newest LNG-fueled Aframax oil tanker has been named in South Korea.
The naming ceremony for the 114,000 dwt Mendeleev Prospect was held at Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI) shipyard.

With a length of 250 meters and a width of 44 meters, the newbuilding has a capacity of 132,100 cbm. Mendeleev Prospect currently has a market value of USD 44.11 million, VesselsValue’s data shows.
Following the deliveries of Gagarin Prospect and Lomonosov Prospect , Mendeleev Prospect is the third in a series of six Aframax tankers designed to operate on LNG as the primary fuel. The company’s ‘Green Funnel’ Aframax tankers set a new standard of navigation safety as switching to cleaner-burning LNG fuel allows them to significantly reduce the impact on the natural environment. This is particularly important for ships in high-traffic areas such as the Baltic and North Seas where these ‘Green Funnel’ tankers will primarily operate.
The Russian shipping company expects to have all six tankers in operation by Q2 2019.
In September 2018, Sovcomflot ordered two similar LNG-fueled Aframax tankers from Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex, both of which will then be time-chartered to Rosneft for 20 years respectively.
