Offshore driller Seadrill Partners has secured a contract for its West Capella drillship with Petronas in Malaysia.
The offshore drilling company said the contract was for one well contract with two options with Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd. Backlog for the firm portion of the contract is expected to be approximately $11 million and start is expected in Q3 2019.
According to available info, the rig is currently drilling for Shell in Malaysia under a five-well contract.
The contract with Shell was signed in July, with the backlog (excluding options) expected to be $32 million.
The West Capella is a 6th generation ultra-deepwater drillship built by Samsung Heavy Industries in 2008. Its maximum water depth is 10,000 feet while the maximum drilling depth is around 37,500 feet.
The rig recently moved to Malaysia having previously drilled for Repsol at a well offshore Aruba.
The West Capella has now gone full circle, as, before the Repsol contract, the rig worked for Petronas in Malaysia on a three-month contract from October 1, 2017, until December 31, 2017.
