Petronet LNG, India’s largest importer of liquefied natural gas, is looking to diversify its chilled fuel supply sources over the coming year.
Citing Petronet LNG’s managing director, Prabhat Singh , Reuters reports the company is looking to secure the supply of at least 1 million tons of LNG over a 10-year period.
Currently, the company imports 10 mtpa of LNG on long-term deals with 8.5 mtpa coming from Qatar.
The company could also snap a stake in a liquefied natural gas project in the United States, Singh said.
He added that, compared to other markets where the state is often in control of the resources, the U.S. market is a lot more open and Petronet LNG intends to explore the opportunities it presents.
One of the projects the company is looking at is the Tellurian’s proposed Driftwood LNG project in Louisiana.
Petronet LNG operates two LNG import facilities capable of handling a total of 20 mtpa of the chilled fuel, 15 mtpa at its Dahej LNG terminal in Gujarat and 5 mtpa at the Kochi facility.
