South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries has won an order for four Suezmax tankers from Turkish shipowner Ciner Denizcilik, according to Clarksons Platou Shipbroking.
The 158,000 dwt quartet is scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2020.
Once delivered, the ships will be chartered by U.S.-based Koch Shipping until 2025. The shipbuilding contract is said to be worth USD 254 million.
Ciner Denizcilik currently has a fleet of 26 commercial vessels, including 20 bulkers, two tankers and four containerships.
December has been a very busy month for the South Korean Big Three shipbuilders. Hyundai Mipo Dockyard won a deal to build a small-scale liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier for Norway-based Knutsen OAS Shipping.
In addition, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) has won a shipbuilding contract for an LNG carrier from the Greek shipowner Maran Gas Maritime . The unit, which will feature 173,400 cbm, would be handed over to its owner by the first half of 2021.
The contract was announced just days after DSME nabbed a contract to build up to six LNG carriers , two firm and four optional ones, from an American owner, believed to be BW Gas. The 174,000 cbm LNG carriers are slated to be delivered in the first half of 2021.
Finally, Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has secured an order from Japanese shipowner NYK for two LNG carries, which will be chartered out to Total Gas & Power Chartering Limited (TGPCL), a subsidiary of French energy major Total. SHI’s orderdbook for 2018 now stands at 44 vessels, including 13 LNG carriers, 13 containerships, 15 tankers, and 3 special purpose ships.
