Allseas’ pipelay vessel Pioneering Spirit will enter the Baltic Sea via the Great Belt Bridge in Denmark to join the Nord Stream 2 construction fleet.
The vessel is due to start the pipe-laying in the Finnish Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) in the coming week.
Pioneering Spirit will be mobilised in Denmark for a few days, after which it will continue its journey to the Finnish EEZ to work on the first pipeline.
Prior to this engagement, the world’s largest construction vessel (382 meters long and 124 wide) installed the TurkStream gas pipeline in the Black Sea.
Nord Stream 2 will be a twin pipeline stretching 1,200 km through the Baltic Sea. Each line will comprise around 100,000 individual pipes, each 12 meters in length. According to the project page, up to 3 kilometers of pipe can be laid each day.
Nord Stream 2 will start from the coast of Russia and reach landfall near Greifswald in Germany. It will run roughly parallel to the existing Nord Stream pipeline.
