Middle Eastern servers of Italian oilfield services contractor Saipem were a target of a cyber attack as revealed by the company on Monday.

“We are collecting all the elements useful for assessing the impact on our infrastructures and the actions to be taken to restore normal activities,” Saipem said in a short statement on Monday.

According to a report by Bloomberg on Monday, Saipem servers in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia were hit the hardest.

The report also stated that the only attack in Europe was in Aberdeen where the company employs fewer than 30 people.

Also, Mauro Piasere , the company’s head of digital and innovation, told Bloomberg that around 400 servers were hit during the attack.

A spokesperson for Saipem told Offshore Energy Today that no data was stolen during the attack and that only some servers within the Saipem’s infrastructure were attacked.

“All back-ups are safe, and it will take a few days to restore the servers,” the spokesperson added.

“We have no proof of the origins or reasons for the attack, though this is being investigated.”
