Seaway Offshore Cables (SOC), in combination with Subsea 7, has been awarded its first US offshore wind project by Ørsted Wind Power North America who are constructing the project for Dominion Energy.
The multi-million-dollar contract will see SOC, and Subsea 7 operating out of the Gulf of Mexico, perform the turnkey supply and installation of inner-array grid cables for the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) Project located approximately 43 kilometers off the east coast of the US.
The CVOW Project includes the development of two, 6-megawatt wind turbines on monopile foundations, which will be connected to the existing onshore grid by submarine cables.
In addition to the submarine cable installation works, SOC will also provide associated materials and services including the supply of the submarine composite cables, cable protection systems and related accessories as well as post-installation termination, trenching and testing services.
The project engineering works will begin immediately. The marine installation works are scheduled for execution in 2020.

SOC will be utilising partly locally available vessels and resources as well as those with the Subsea 7 group.
