Russia is set to commission its first floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) at the Kaliningrad province bordered by Poland and Lithuania on the Baltic coast.

The project led by the Russian giant Gazprom is aimed at securing supply to the region should there be any issues with natural gas transit.

Citing sources close to the matter, Reuters reports the FSRU is set to dock at the Kaliningrad port on Tuesday, December 18.

According to the AIS data provided by VesselsValue, the FSRU named Marshal Vasilevskiy is currently anchored off Kaliningrad.

The vessel is loaded with chilled fuel set to be used for commissioning of the import facility, and the shipping data shows the vessel arrived from Singapore.

There are no immediate deliveries scheduled for the import facility, the sources said, as gas flows through Lithuania are stable.
