BigLift Shipping, a heavy lift shipping company, has recently transported a jack-up drilling rig from the Netherlands to West Africa.

The company’s BigLift Barentsz vessel in October loaded an 11,700 mt jack-up rig Exomna in Flushing, The Netherlands, to bring it to the West of Africa. The rig was delivered to its destination within three weeks.

According to BigLift, the rig has an overall breadth of 75 meters and its legs are 133 meters high and BigLift Barentsz has a large, flush deck of 125 x 42 meters.

All design and engineering, procurement and construction was completed within three weeks between signing the contract and starting loading operations. Both the loading and discharge operation were performed within the course of a single day.

The Exomna rig, previously known as Energy Enhancer, was sold together with Energy Endeavour rig by Northern Offshore to Dixtone Holdings, an affiliate of the Perenco Group, early in 2018. Built in 1982, the two jack-ups were previously cold stacked in Rotterdam following completion of drilling contracts in the Southern North Sea region.

In addition, Northern Offshore entered into management services agreements with the new owner to provide crews and operational support to reactivate and convert both jack-ups to platform support units.
