German shipping group Gesellschaft Fur Oeltransporte (GEFO) has placed an order for two LNG-ready 7,000 DWT stainless steel chemical tankers at the Chinese shipyard Avic Dingheng Shipbuilding.

The German company has an option for two additional vessels, all based on the design developed by the marine engineering company FKAB.

The tankers will be equipped with 14 cargo tanks and are certified for Finnish/Swedish ice class, ICE 1A, FKAB said in its statement.

The propulsion system consists of a four-stroke main engine being LNG and dual fuel ready.

With the order, GEFO is looking to prepare for the future challenges for propulsion and fuel availability, according to FKAB.
