South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has a lot of reasons to be jolly as LNG carrier orders keep coming in just days before the end of the year.
Namely, the company said today that it has received orders for two LNG carriers worth KRW 426 billion (USD 378 million). The identity of the shipowner behind the deal as well as other details of the order were not disclosed.
The latest contract brings SHI’s orderbook to 48 ships, worth USD 6.1 billion. The shipbuilder’s ordering tally for this year is dominated by LNG carriers, 17 of them, out of which 5 were booked this month alone.
To remind, on Friday, SHI revealed an LNG carrier order from an undisclosed owner from Oceania worth KRW 209 bn (USD 186 million).
The contract was announced just a day after Greek Cardiff Gas had ordered four 174,000 cubic meter LNG carriers , two from Samsung and two from Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI).
SHI’s December deals galore kick started a week earlier with a contract for the construction of an LNG carrier, also from an unnamed shipowner from the Oceania region.
