Equinor has contracted Vissim to deploy a surveillance solution for the ocean space surrounding all of its assets, as well as several third-party operated assets, on the UK and Norwegian Continental Shelves.
Under the six-year contract, the system will give operators an almost complete overview of the ocean space, vessel and helicopter movements together with weather forecasts, oil spill surveillance and radio communication.
The solution will cover a distance from satellites to more than one kilometer below the sea surface, across the Norwegian Continental Shelf, and the British sector of the North Sea, Equinor said.
According to the company, the technology is designed for big data analytics, as well as for the purpose of collaboration cross-system, cross-discipline and where data easily can be shared with other systems onshore, offshore or onboard vessels.

Operation is coordinated between the central control center and more than 50 distributed offshore energy assets.
The system, which comprises more than 100 offshore radars, AIS and VHF sensors/base stations powered by a data platform, is one of the largest of its kind in the world, Vissim said.
