Australia’s transcontinental submarine fibre optic cable, INDIGO Central, has now achieved ‘final splice’, Superloop informed.
Final splice represents the conclusion of subsea cable installation creating a complete optical path from landing station to landing station.
This follows INDIGO West achieving its final splice on Friday, December 21, creating the first submarine cable system connecting Singapore to Sydney, the company said.
After final splice, the cable then enters a period of acceptance and commissioning testing before going live and providing commercial service.
“ This has been a tremendous project and INDIGO will become an important piece of infrastructure for Australia and the region not just for its diversity and additional resiliency, but because it provides greater competition for the Australian connectivity market, ” said Superloop CEO Drew Kelton .
