Shell has kicked off production from Prelude Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) facility by opening subsea wells on December 25, 2018.
The Prelude FLNG facility is located 475 km north-north east of Broome in Western Australia.
Prelude now enters start-up, ramp-up, which is the initial phase of production where gas and condensate is produced and is moved through the facility. Once this has concluded the facility will be stabilized for reliable production of LPG and LNG, Shell explained.
“The focus continues to be on providing a controlled environment to ensure Prelude will operate reliably and safely now, and in the future,” the company said in a press statement.
The FLNG facility, designed to produce 3.6 mtpa of LNG, 1.3 mtpa of condensate and 0.4 mtpa of LPG for export, is expected to stay moored at the Prelude gas field for 25 years.
