Thailand’s PTTEP said last Friday that production at its Greater Bongkot North and Greater Bongkot South offshore production platforms was expected to resume on Sunday, January 6.
PTTEP last Wednesday temporarily suspended operations at its Greater Bongkot North and Greater Bongkot South platforms as they were directly in the path of the tropical storm Pabuk in the Gulf of Thailand. The company also demobilized all staff back ashore at the Songkhla province.
According to PTTEP’s statement on Friday, January 4 the storm passed the company’s offshore installations and all staff and contractors were safe.
PTTEP said it had sent the first surveillance team to inspect Bongkot platforms and assess operation readiness before re-mobilizing the rest of the staff to the offshore platforms. Meanwhile, PTTEP has started re-mobilizing drilling rigs and vessels to the operation areas.
The company added it expected to resume gas production on January 6, 2019. Meanwhile, Arthit platform continued its operation as normal.
PTTEP was not the only operator in Thailand to suspend its operations due to the tropical storm Pabuk. KrisEnergy also last week temporarily closed oil production at the Wassana field in the G10/48 license in the Gulf of Thailand and halted drilling of infill development wells by the Mist jack-up rig as a safety precaution due to tropical storm Pabuk.
The latest update issued by Thailand’s Meteorological Department on Saturday said that at 8.00 p.m. on January 8, depression Pabuk over the Andaman Sea downgraded to active low.
