Norwegian shipping company Klaveness has taken delivery of MV Baru, a Panamax combination carrier newbuilding, from New Yangzi Shipyard in China.
The 83,600 dwt ship is the first of six contracted CLEANBU vessels that will be delivered to Klaveness Combination Carriers over the next two years, up to October 2020.
Featuring a length of 228.4 meters and a width of 34.5 meters, MV Baru currently has a market value of USD 33.56 million, according to data provided by VesselsValue.
As explained by Klaveness, this next generation of combination carriers has an advanced vessel design, environmental performance, and operational and technical efficiency. The CLEANBUs have up to 40% lower CO2 emissions per ton mile transported cargo, and go a long way in meeting IMO’s 2050 targets of a 50% reduction in CO2 emissions from shipping.
With the delivery of the MV Baru, Klaveness Combination Carriers will operate a fleet of ten combination carriers. The company has fixed-price options to contract a further four CLEANBUs for delivery in 2021.
Klaveness said that the Marshall Islands-flagged vessel is now ready for its first employment, transporting tanker cargo from Far East to Australia.
