Norwegian energy giant Equinor has closed its Hammerfest liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility located on Melkøya Island in northern Norway.
The LNG export facility was shut down on January 4 due to “technical challenges with a compressor reinjecting CO2,” an Equinor spokesman told LNG World News via email on Friday.
The spokeswoman added that Equinor is working to bring the facility online again.
“As per now, this stop does not affect Equinor’s deliveries to our customers,” she said.
Hammerfest liquefaction and export plant uses gas from the Snøhvit development in the Barents Sea to produce about 4.3 million tonnes per annum of LNG.
The chilled fuel produced at the facility mainly lands at LNG terminals in Europe but also in Asia.
