Spain’s imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) rose 13.3 percent in December when compared to the same month a year ago, according to the monthly data by the LNG terminal operator Enagás.
LNG imports reached some 19 terawatt hours (TWh) last month as compared to 16.8 TWh in December 2017.
Total natural gas imports, including piped supplies, rose 5.5 percent to 39.3 TWh. Pipeline supplies from Algeria decreased 12.1 percent to 14.6 TWh, as compared to 16.7 TWh last year.
Looking at the biggest LNG suppliers to Spain last month, Nigeria was first with 5 TWh, followed by Peru, Qatar and Trinidad and Tobago. Nigerian LNG volumes rose 174 percent year-on-year.
The rest of Spain’s LNG imports in December were sourced from Algeria, Russia, USA, Norway, and Cameroon.
The Barcelona regasification plant received seven LNG shipments out of the total 23 cargoes imported into Spain during the month under review.
Huelva received six LNG cargoes while Bilbao took five shipments last month. The Cartagena facility handled three cargoes and Mugardos two shipments.
Mugardos also conducted one small reload during the month of December, according to the Enagás data.
