South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) has started the year on a high note having won a deal to build four very large crude oil carriers (VLCCs) for an unnamed shipowner from Oceania.
The contract, the first one for DSME this year, is worth KRW 409.5 billion (USD 364 million).
The newbuilds are slated for delivery in the first quarter of 2021, the shipbuilder said in a regulatory filing.
DSME ended last year with 47 secured ship orders, worth USD 6.81 billion, hitting approximately 93% of the company’s orderbook target for 2018 of USD 7.3 billion.
These included 18 LNG carriers, 16 large-sized crude oil carriers, 16 ultra large containerships, and 6 special-purpose vessels.
