Summit LNG Terminal, a Summit Corporation unit, is set bring its LNG import project in Bangladesh online in March as planned despite potential pipeline construction delays.
Citing sources familiar to the matter, Reuters reports that the pipeline that would connect the FSRU to the coastal city of Chattogram has not been fully built which would restrict the flows of regasified LNG from Bangladesh’s second import facility to the transmission network.
The pipeline delays will result in the FSRU supplying about 300 million cubic feet of natural gas per day to the transmission network.
The FSRU to be provided by Excelerate Energy has the capacity to supply approximately 500 million cubic feet per day of natural gas to the national grid.
The unit, with the capacity to store 138,000 cubic meters, will be moored 6 kilometers off the coast of the island of Moheshkali in the Cox Bazar District of Chittagong Division in Bangladesh, where it will receive and regasify LNG procured by Petrobangla, the national oil and energy company.
In August last year, Japan’s Mitsubishi Corporation acquired a 25 percent interest in Summit LNG Terminal.
