South Korean shipbuilding giant Hyundai Heavy Industries Group has won an order to build two 158,000 dwt crude carriers for an unnamed European owner.
The ships would be built by the group’s Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries brand and are scheduled to start delivery in the second half of 2020, HHI informed. The contract is said to be worth KRW 155 billion (USD 138.2 million).
The deal is being announced on the same day Hyundai Samho hosted the first ship naming ceremony of 2019.
The naming ceremony was held for a 300,000 dwt very large crude carrier (VLCC) Pacifc M, ordered by Sentek Marine & Trading Private Limited, a tanker owner from Singapore. The ship is scheduled for delivery by the end of January.
Senetek ordered two VLCC from Hyundai Samho in 2017. The second ship from the batch, yet to be named, is also nearing completion and is set for delivery in May this year.
Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries is planning to deliver 35 vessels this year and has set sights on obtaining orders worth USD 4.3 billion.
