Japan’s Kawasaki Heavy Industries has christened a liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier being built for Trans Pacific Shipping 7 Ltd, a joint venture of NYK Line and JERA.

The new vessel was named Shinshu Maru at KHI’s Sakaide shipyard on January 17.

With a length of 299.9 meters and a breadth of 48.9 meters, the new LNG carrier has a cargo tank capacity of 177,277 cubic meters.

Following scheduled delivery in February 2019, Shinshu Maru would transport LNG from the Freeport LNG Project in Texas, US, under a 20-year transportation contract signed in 2015. NYK will be responsible for the management of the vessel.

Just last week, Mitsubishi Shipbuilding christened an LNG carrier for a joint venture of JERA and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines.

The new vessel was named Nohshu Maru on January 11 at the Koyagi Plant of MHI’s Nagasaki Shipyard & Machinery Works.

The 80,300 dwt Nohshu Maru is also scheduled to join the fleet in February 2019, after which it would be deployed to transport LNG for the Freeport LNG Project.
