Indian Oil Corporation is reportedly close to commissioning its first liquefied natural gas terminal at Ennore.
The Ennore LNG facility is also the first liquefied natural gas import facility on India’s east coast and is part of the state-owned company’s push to cut natural gas shortage in the region.
The project is set to receive a commissioning cargo by the end of January as the dredging work runs to a close, Platts reports, citing company officials.
Natural gas from the facility will be linked to the gas distribution system through a 1,385-kilometer pipeline to Nagapattinam currently under construction. The first phase of the project is scheduled for completion in May with the second to follow in December.
Ennore LNG terminal will also be connected to the Chennai Petroleum Corporation-operated refinery and a number of industrial consumers.
