BW LNG, BW Group’s LNG shipping company, has splashed its third MEGI liquefied natural gas (LNG) newbuilding.

The 173,400 cbm unit was launched this week at Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) shipyard in South Korea.

The yet unnamed LNG carrier is the third of the company’s seven new ships with the M-type, Electronically Controlled, Gas Injection (MEGI) propulsion and reliquefaction system. The first two MEGI LNG carriers, BW Tulip and BW Lilac , were handed over to its owner in 2018.

With a length of 294.9 meters and a width of 46.4 meters, the 83,000 dwt vessel will fly the flag of Singapore, VesselsValue’s data shows.

Following its delivery in September this year, the newbuild will start a long-term charter, BW LNG said.

In October 2018, the company inked an agreement with Pavilion Energy for the long-term charter of two MEGI LNG newbuilds to be delivered between 2019 and 2020. These carriers will add to Pavilion Energy’s existing fleet on water which includes the BW Pavilion Vanda and BW Pavilion Leeara.

The remaining new vessels BW LNG has on order at DSME are expected to be delivered until 2021.
