The United States Federal Energy Regulatory Commission issued an order vacating Aguirre Offshore GasPort permit to site, build and operate facilities off Puerto Rico.
FSRU specialist, Excelerate Energy initially proposed the project for the southern shore of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, near Salinas.
However, as a result of changed circumstances, the Aguirre Offshore GasPort project, including the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal conditionally authorized by the regulator, was canceled by the company in November last year.
Excelerate filed in a request to FERC to vacate the authorization for the construction of the facilities that would have included a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) with a baseload capacity of 500 mmscf/d, minimal infrastructure to moor the vessel, and a subsea pipeline to deliver the gas onshore.
Following the review of the latest request and the note that Excelerate no longer intends to proceed with the project, the commission closed the curtain on the project.
