LOC Renewables has overseen the launch of the 2MW Floatgen turbine, the first offshore wind turbine installed in French waters.
The company’s Paris office supplied marine warranty surveying services (MWS) across the project, which started delivering electricity to the grid in September last year.
LOC offered MWS services for a variety of activities, from concrete floater construction and launch to turbine component integration, mooring line hook-up and turbine tow-out.
The company said it was brought on to guide the choice of equipment and procedures as the mooring lines of the foundation had to be stretched before connection, requiring the use of specialized marine techniques and equipment.
“The MWS provided by LOC Renewables can ensure smooth, safe and quick operations, particularly when new projects and technologies such as floating wind can require delicate operations that may be unfamiliar to local project teams,” said Hugues Delanoue , Managing Director of LOC France.
“Bringing our engineering expertise to floating wind has allowed us to deliver this ground-breaking project with carefully-managed costs and minimal complications.”
Floatgen comprises a Vestas V80 turbine mounted on a square ring-shaped floating foundation , known as the Damping Pool, developed and patented by Ideol and built by Bouygues Travaux Publics.
The project is a joint venture between Ideol, Bouygues Travaux Publics, Centrale Nantes engineering school, RSK Group, Zabala, the University of Stuttgart, and Fraunhofer IWES.
