Pointe LNG, a newcomer to the industry, has been informed by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission of its intent to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).

In its notice, the regulator said it will prepare an environmental impact statement (EIS) discussing the impacts of the Pointe LNG project that involves construction and operation of facilities in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana.

The commission will use the EIS in its decision-making process to determine whether the project is in the public interest.

With the notice, FERC has opened the scoping process during which it will gather input from the public and interested agencies about issues regarding the project. The scoping period ends on March 7, 2019.

Pointe LNG intends to build a liquefied natural gas plant capable of producing 6 million tons of LNG from three trains, as well as two LNG storage tanks of 140,000-cbm each.

The company also intends to build and operate two pipelines that would feed natural gas to the liquefaction facility. The two pipelines would connect to the Tennessee gas pipeline and the High Point Gas Transmission 2.4 and 2 miles away from the plant, respectively.
