Jan De Nul Group announced today that their project team in Uruguay has completed the first round of dredging works on the Río Uruguay, starting the three year maintenance period.

During this capital cleanup scheme, 3.3 million m³ was dredged, said Jan De Nul.

Trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) Amerigo Vespucci started the opening dredging on 7 March last year.

According to Jan De Nul, in this phase the Río Uruguay was deepened, including the access channel to the port of Concepción del Uruguay, up until Casa Blanca.

This contract between the Río Uruguay Authority ‘C.A.R.U.’ and Jan De Nul Group includes one year of opening dredging works followed by a maintenance of three consecutive years by means of trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) Alvar Nuñez Cabeça de Vaca.
