Spain’s imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) jumped 13.1 percent in December when compared to the same month a year ago, according to the monthly data by the LNG terminal operator Enagás.
LNG imports reached some 19 terawatt hours (TWh) in December 2018 as compared to 16.8 TWh in December 2017.
Total natural gas imports, including piped supplies, rose 5.5 percent to 39.3 TWh. Pipeline supplies from Algeria decreased 12.2 percent to 14.6 TWh, as compared to 16.7 TWh the previous year.
Top LNG supplier to Spain during December 2018 was Nigeria with 5 TWh, followed by Peru and Qatar with 2.7 TWh, each.
Trinidad & Tobago deliveries stood at 2.5 TWh with volumes from Russia and the United States however at the same 1TWh level, during December 2018.
Enagás, noted in its report that the list of LNG supplier to Spain was extended in December 2018 with the delivery of volumes from Cameroon.
The Barcelona regasification plant received seven LNG shipments out of the total 23 cargoes imported into Spain during the month under review.
Huelva received six LNG cargoes while Bilbao took five shipments in December with Cartagena facility receiving three cargoes. Mugardos facility received two cargoes while no tankers docked at the Sagunto facility.
Mugardos facility also completed one reload operation during the month.
