Ørsted has developed a novel digital solution for designing the cable layout of offshore wind farms said to result in cost reductions.

The OptiArray tool, developed using the FICO Xpress Optimizer, is dedicated for designing the cable layout connecting the turbines to the substations.

The company added that the tool has helped in achieving savings while reducing the overall design time.

In addition, OptiArray is said to improve the ability to investigate different scenarios as engineers can look for new ways to drive down the cost of electricity by testing many what-if scenarios.

“Ørsted demonstrated innovative mathematical modelling to solve this challenge,” said Steve Hadaway , General Manager for FICO in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

“Our Xpress solution is built for innovators like Ørsted that need to crunch through millions of options to find the ideal solution in minutes.”
