Bahrain’s first LNG floating storage unit (FSU), the Bahrain Spirit, reportedly arrived in the Persian Gulf this week.
Citing data from Refinitiv Eikon, Reuters said that the Bahrain Spirit FSU, with 173,000 cubic meters of capacity, was currently anchored in Fujairah after docking in the United Arab Emirates on January 13.
The FSU is on a 20-year charter to Bahrain LNG, the developer of the receiving and regasification terminal in the Khalifa bin Salman Port.
National Oil & Gas Authority (NOGA) of Bahrain, Gulf Investment Corporation (GIC) and Samsung Construction and Trading (SCT) joined forces with operator Teekay in 2015 to form Bahrain LNG.
The terminal where the FSU will be located also incorporates an offshore LNG receiving jetty and breakwater, an adjacent regasification platform, subsea gas pipelines from the platform to shore, an onshore gas receiving facility, and an onshore nitrogen production facility.
The LNG import terminal, set to begin operations early this year, will allow Bahrain to import LNG in order to service the growing demand for natural gas. LNG will be delivered to the terminal by LNG carrier ships and stored in the FSU.
The LNG will be turned back into gas and transferred via a buried pipeline to shore where it will supply the existing natural gas pipeline network operated by Bahrain Petroleum Company.
It is worth reminding that the Bahrain Spirit was delivered to Bahrain LNG back in October 2018 .
