U.S. port developer Atlantic Offshore Terminals LLC has acquired a port site in the state of New York which would be used for the offshore wind industry.
Atlantic Offshore Terminals is proposing to develop the Arthur Kill Terminal, the first offshore wind pre-assembly port facility in New York State, said law firm Sive, Paget & Riesel (SPR), who closed the deal in February.
The project is uniquely positioned to serve the offshore wind industry in New York, New Jersey and along the Mid-Atlantic and will be a hub for the development of an offshore wind supply chain in New York, SPR said.
According to the U.S. law firm, a critical component in the northeastern U.S. offshore wind development is the establishment of a port facility where the industry can stage and assemble large wind turbines for installation in the Atlantic Ocean.
SPR assisted in identifying and acquiring the terminal project site and is shepherding the project through the state and federal permitting and approval processes.
