The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) has granted Lundin Norway a drilling permit for a well in the North Sea offshore Norway.

The well 16/5-8 S will be drilled from the Leiv Eiriksson semi-submersible drilling rig after completing the drilling of well 16/1-31 S with optional sidetrack in the central part of the North Sea.

The drilling program for well 16/5-8 S relates to the drilling of wildcat wells in production license 815, where Lundin Norway is the operator with an ownership interest of 40 percent. Other licensees are Concedo, Lime Petroleum, and Petoro, each with a 20 percent interest.

The area in this license consists of part of block 16/5. The well will be drilled about 11 kilometers southeast of 16/1-28 S on the Rolvsnes discovery in the central part of the North Sea.

Production licence 815 was awarded on February 5, 2016 (APA 2015). This is the first exploration well to be drilled in the current license, but one wildcat well has been drilled earlier within the license area.
