German shipbuilder Meyer Werft held a steel cutting ceremony for Saga Cruises’ latest cruise ship, the Spirit of Adventure, on March 27.
Construction work was launched at the Papenburg shipyard on the second new ship for the British cruise company, scheduled to be handed over in summer 2020.
Spirit of Adventure is due to start sailing from Dover in August 2020, with itineraries featuring the Norwegian Fjords, the Caribbean and the Mediterranean.
Like its sister ship Spirit of Discovery, Spirit of Adventure will be constructed at the shipbuilder’s Building Dock I. Both units will have the capacity to accommodate 999 passengers and 505 crew members.
The cruise ships each have an overall length of 236 metres, a width of 31.2 metres and a tonnage measurement of 58,250 gross tons.
