Norwegian oil and gas company Aker BP has exercised the second of three one-week options for the Prosafe-owned Safe Scandinavia accommodation rig.

Prosafe said on Friday that the total value of the option is approximately $1 million with operations continuing into mid-May 2019.

Prosafe won a contract from Aker BP for the Safe Scandinavia accommodation unit back in July 2018. The flotel was hired for accommodation support at the Ula platform offshore Norway. The two companies agreed on a seven-month contract with eight one-month options.

In February 2019, Aker BP exercised the first of eight one-month options to extend the charter of the flotel Safe Scandinavia. The total value of this option was $4.5 million.

However, instead of carrying on with one-month options, Aker BP earlier in March agreed with Prosafe to restructure the remaining seven one-month options for the Safe Scandinavia unit at the Ula platform to three one-week options. In addition, the first of the one-week options was exercised, leaving Aker BP with two one-week options, one of which the company has now exercised.

The Safe Scandinavia was constructed in 1984 at Aker Verdal to an Aker H-3.2E design and has a maximum accommodation capacity of 583 beds.
