Kvaerner has built the steel jacket for Valhall Flank West project and made it ready for transport to the Aker BP-operated Valhall oil field

This is the first of two main deliveries for the development of the new wellhead platform.

The wellhead platform alliance partners; Aker BP, Kværner, ABB and Aker Solutions marked this occasion with a traditional baptism ceremony.

During the next few days, the jacket will be moved from shore to the barge where it will be docked for transport to the field.

The contract for the Valhall development was signed in December 2017, with a value for Kværner of just under NOK 1 billion. The first steel for the jacket was cut in April 2018.

At most, around 650 people have been involved in the project, from Kværner, the alliance and subcontractors.

The 2,250 tonnes platform will be ready for delivery from Verdal in mid-June, and interconnection and completion on the field is planned for August 2019. Valhall Flank West is the second wellhead platform built and delivered from Kværner’s shipyard in Verdal.

Valhall is an oil field in the southern part of the Norwegian sector in the North Sea. The Valhall Flank West project aims to continue the development of the Tor formation in Valhall on the western flank of the field.
