Oil and gas company Lundin has received consent from the Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) for exploration drilling in the North Sea offshore Norway, using the Leiv Eiriksson drilling rig.
The safety agency said on Thursday it had given its consent to Lundin for exploration drilling of wells 16/5-8 S and 16/5-8 A, located in production license 815 where Lundin is the operator. Other licensees are Concedo, Lime Petroleum, and Petoro, each with a 20 percent interest.
The wells are to be drilled in the North Sea, in the vicinity of the Edvard Grieg field. Water depth at the site is around 104 meters.
According to the PSA, the operation is scheduled to begin in May 2019 and to last 43 days, which includes options for a sidetrack and formation testing.
The wells are to be drilled by Leiv Eiriksson, which is a semi-submersible drilling rig of the SS Trosvik Bingo 9000 type, owned and operated by Ocean Rig, which was acquired by Transocean last December.
Lundin has already received a drilling permit for the 16/5-8 S well from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate.
