Summit LNG Terminal, a Summit Corporation unit, said the Summit LNG FSRU has arrived in the Bay of Bengal in Bangladesh ahead of schedule.
It is now moored 6 kilometers off the island of Moheshkhali in Cox’s Bazar, the company said in a statement.
The vessel that Summit chartered from Excelerate Energy on a 15-year deal has brought 130,000 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas from Qatar.
The FSRU will send out regasified LNG via subsea pipeline connected to the national grid. Summit LNG is able to regasify 500 million cubic feet of LNG daily (mmcfd), the company said.
Summit LNG Terminal, a Summit and Mitsubishi joint venture, received a concession from the state-owned Petrobangla in 2017 to develop a floating LNG terminal facility comprising of a storage and regasification unit, this project is part of Summit Power International’s $1 billion investment programme by 2020 to deliver power and gas to Bangladesh.
Geocean and MacGregor have been awarded a turnkey contract for marine work for the FSRU terminal and PSA Marine (of Singapore) for support vessel services at Moheskhali, Cox’s Bazar.
