The Central Province of Quang Nam and Da Nang city have agreed to undertake dredging work on a 28km section of the Co Co River to boost commercial water traffic between Hoi An and Da Nang, Viet Nam News reports.

According to the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, Le Tri Thanh, the project is scheduled to take place in 2020 and will cost around $55 million.

Thanh also added that the province had already dredged a 9km stretch of the river.

The Co Co River dredging program will expand inner waterway services between the two tourism hubs, which have largely been neglected due to the use of roads.

This very important development scheme would also help ease traffic between Hoi An – a UNESCO world heritage site – and Dan Nang.

Viet Nam News announced that the project will include construction of new bridges, wharves and recreational centers as alternatives to exploring Da Nang and Hoi An by car or motorbike.
