ECA Group has supplied a five function electric manipulator arm to be integrated onto a manned submarine Ictineu 3, conducting scientific subsea missions in Europe.

ECA Group delivered an Arm 5E to the Spanish Ictineu Submarins SL company, to equip its Ictineu 3 manned submarines, which are 3-person underwater vehicles rated to 1200 m depth.

For such a manned scientific submarine, a performing, efficient and lightweight manipulator arm is a key feature, the company said.

Once installed of the manned submarine the arm permits the collection and retrieval of samples or other objects, and thereby offer an extension of the scope of Icteneu’s scientific/archaeological missions or industrial interventions.
