HSM Offshore has loaded out the Borssele Alpha substation topside onto a barge at its yard in Schiedam, the Netherlands.

The 700MW Borssele Alpha will collect the electricity generated by Ørsted’s Borssele 1 + 2 offshore wind farm and feed it into the Dutch grid.

The substation’s jacket foundation was installed in August 2018. The platform is scheduled for completion by August 2019.

The Borssele 1 + 2 wind farm is located some 22 kilometres offshore Zeeland and will comprise 94 Siemens Gamesa 8MW turbines slated for commissioning in 2020.

HSM Offshore is in charge of delivering both the Borssele Alpha and the 700MW Borssele Beta transformer stations.

The Borssele Alpha and Beta platforms are the first large-scale grid connections to be constructed under the National Energy Agreement for offshore wind farms in the Netherlands. Borssele Beta is scheduled to be completed in 2020.

NOTE: The original article announcing the load-out has been amended to state that the load-out has been completed.
