UK energy department BEIS has recently published the final package of documents required to launch the upcoming third allocation round of its Contracts for Difference (CfD) renewables auctions.

The application window will open on 29 May 2019 and close on 18 June 2019.

BEIS plans to award the budget proceedings for the periods 2023-2024 and 2024-2025, with 6GW of capacity due to be allocated.

The overall budget applicable to this CfD Allocation Round is £65 million.

The application for developers of the Pot 2 technologies includes offshore wind, remote island wind and also wave energy and tidal energy.

Contracts for Difference (CfD) is one of the key mechanisms implemented by the UK Government as part of Electricity Market Reform to incentivise investment in new low carbon generation technology.
