The second cable that will connect the Borssele Alpha offshore high voltage substation in the Dutch North Sea to the transformer station at Borssele has made landfall, according to TenneT.

Boskalis Subsea Cables & Flexibles, former VBMS, and NKT are in charge of supplying, delivering and installing two 61km long export cables for the Borssele Alpha grid link under a contract with TenneT.

The first cable that will connect the 700MW substation to the transformer station made landfall in the middle of April.

The Borssele Alpha topside is currently on its way from HSM Offshore in Schiedam toward the project site, where it will be mounted onto its jacket foundation, which was installed in August last year.

Borssele Alpha, scheduled for completion by August, will collect the electricity generated by Ørsted’s Borssele 1&2 offshore wind farm and feed it into the grid.

In addition to Borssele Alpha, Boskalis and NKT were also awarded a contract to supply, deliver, and install the export cables for the Borssele Beta platform.

The two platforms are the first large-scale grid connections to be constructed under the National Energy Agreement for offshore wind farms in the Netherlands. Borssele Beta is scheduled to be completed in 2020.
