The Government of Montserrat, together with its partners the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and the United Kingdom Caribbean Infrastructure Fund (UKCIF), has launched construction of a $19.5 million port development in Little Bay.

“ The launch of this port construction project marks one of the first steps towards the fulfillment of the long hoped for transformation dream ,” said Donaldson Romeo, Montserrat’s Premier .

Donaldson added that the port, scheduled to be completed in 2022, will be a huge step for access, for trade and for tourism.

According to the CBD officials, the project includes the construction of an offshore breakwater and quay, designed to improve maritime access to Montserrat.

When complete, the project will allow the Little Bay port to accommodate larger cruise ships than those currently calling at the island, most of which anchor offshore and tender guests to shore.

The first phase of the project is expected to be completed by 2020.
