Offshore accommodation company Prosafe has informed that its flagship flotel Safe Zephyrus has reached BP’s Clair Ridge platform located West of Shetland.

“The Safe Zephyrus arrived safely on location at the Clair Ridge platform, West of Shetland, and gangway connected on the 14th of May,” Prosafe said in a social media post on Wednesday.

The Safe Zephyrus will be supporting BP’s Clair Ridge work for a period of five months with a one month option. The contract for this was awarded in October 2018, when Prosafe said the flotel would support “some post first oil scopes” in summer months when the weather is favorable at the Clair Ridge platform.

The total value of the contract with BP, excluding the option periods, is approximately USD 19 million.

Prosafe said: “We look forward to supporting BP again this summer following a successful campaign at Clair Ridge during 2018 with the Safe Caledonia.”

The Safe Zephyrus previously worked 0n Equinor’s Johan Sverdrup development on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.

As for BP’s Clair Ridge project, it the second phase of development of the Clair field, 75 kilometers West of Shetland and it started production in November 2018. The field, which was discovered in 1977, has an estimated seven billion barrels of hydrocarbons.

Two new, bridge-linked platforms and oil and gas export pipelines have been constructed as part of the Clair Ridge project.

According to BP, the partners invested more than £4.5 billion in the new offshore facilities, designed for 40 years of production.

In addition to the platforms, the Clair Ridge project also included new pipeline infrastructure with the installation of a 5.5-kilometer, 22-inch oil export pipeline tying into the Clair Phase 1 export pipeline. Oil from Clair is exported to the Sullom Voe Terminal on Shetland.

The Clair Ridge development is expected to recover an estimated 640 million barrels of oil with production expected to ramp up to a peak at plateau level of 120,000 barrels of oil per day.
