Naya Arctica, a container ship owned by Greenland’s Royal Arctic Line (RAL), hit a pier at the Sundahöfn port in Reykjavik, Iceland, on May 26.
According to Iceland-based shipping company Eimskip, RAL’s vessel-sharing partner, the 782 TEU Naja Arctica caused considerable damage to the Kleppsbakki pier.
Operations at the port were not affected on Monday, the company said, adding that repairs are estimated to take between six and eight weeks.
“Weather conditions are good and the Eimskip team is now working day and night to make sure that the incident has as little impact on operations as possible,” the company said.
The company further added that customers that have cargo in its vessels would be informed as needed.
RAL noted that no one was injured in the incident and that the 1994-built ship did not sustain significant damages.
