Spirit of Discovery, a new cruise ship built by German Meyer Werft for UK’s Saga Cruises, has completed its conveyance across the river Ems.
The newbuilding left Papenburg on late May 26 and was conveyed on the river Ems to Emden during the night.
On its way to Emden, the cruise ship passed sea lock in Papenburg, Friesen bridge in Weener and Jann Berghaus bridge in Leer before reaching the river Ems barrier in Gandersum. After passing the Ems barrier, the vessel reached the Emden sea lock, assisted by tugs.
The 999-passenger Spirit of Discovery will now undergo several days of technical and nautical sea trials on the North Sea.
The 58,250 GT Spirit of Discovery is the first of two ships ordered from Meyer Werft by the British cruise line. Each of the vessels has an overall length of 236 meters and a width of 31.2 meters.

The sister ship, Spirit of Adventure, is expected to be completed in summer 2020.
