U.S.-based independent energy company Hilcorp has hired one of Spartan Offshore Drilling’s jack-up rigs.
According to data provided by Bassoe Offshore, an offshore rig brokerage, advisory, and project development company, Hilcorp hired the Spartan 151 jack-up on a 100-day deal.
Information from Bassoe Analytics shows that the contract for work offshore Alaska is expected to begin on July 20 and end on October 28.

While the oil company and the driller have yet to respond, it is worth noting that Hilcorp had March 26, 2019 filed a request to the Division of Oil and Gas (Division) for approval to carry out the 2019 Granite Point Drilling Program in the Cook Inlet approximately 15 miles north of the town of Nikiski and 10 miles southwest of the Native Village of Tyonek.
The plan, approved on May 16 , envisages drilling of up to four sidetrack wells from existing wellbores at the location using the Spartan-151, or similar, jack-up rig at the Granite Point Platform location. The proposed wells will be drilled to bottom-hole depths between 7,000 to 16,000 feet.
According to the plan, rig mobilization is expected to begin by June 1, 2019, with an expected duration of 30-60 days per well completion. Drilling activities and rig demobilization will conclude by November 15, 2019.
As for the rig, Spartan 151 is of the Baker Marine Skidoff design, refurbished to new in 2006. The rig can operate in a maximum water depth of 150 feet and drill to a depth of 25,000 feet. It can hold up to 62 people onboard.
