Oil company Repsol Sinopec Resources UK has restored production at its North Sea platforms following a recent shutdown.
Earlier this month, production at the Repsol Sinopec-operated Claymore and Tartan offshore platforms located in the UK North Sea had been temporarily shut down to allow the company to repair a valve on the export pipeline from the Claymore platform to the onshore Flotta terminal in Scotland.
The Flotta Terminal is located on the island of Flotta in the Orkney Islands just north of mainland Scotland. Crude oil is imported to the Flotta terminal from several offshore installations through a 30” subsea pipeline. The pipeline is fed from the following Repsol Sinopec-operated fields; Claymore, Scapa, Piper ‘B’, Tweedsmuir, Tartan, Highlander, Duart, Petronella, and Galley. The pipeline is also fed from CNOOC Nexen-operated Golden Eagle field.
In addition to Repsol Sinopec’s Claymore and Tartan assets, the problem also affected CNOOC’s Golden Eagle platform.
The precise nature of the issue was a leak of hydraulic fluid from the valve.
Repsol Sinopec on Thursday confirmed it had restored production at Claymore following repairs. The platform is gradually ramping up to full production.
Under normal circumstances, Repsol Sinopec’s aggregate average daily production from Claymore and Tartan platforms is c.19,500 bbl.
A spokesman for Repsol Sinopec Resources UK said: “The situation has been temporarily resolved, pending further work being completed during our planned summer shutdown.”
