Spanish LNG terminal operator Reganosa said its Mugardos liquefied natural gas plant in the port of Ferrol receives the first LNG load from Cheniere’s Corpus Christi project in Texas.

Cheniere’s Corpus Christi plant that kicked off operations last December has an estimates nominal production of 23 million tonnes per year, Reganosa said in its statement.

The vessel that transported the first cargo from Corpus Christi to Spain is the 2002-built LNG carrier Excalibur capable of transporting 144,000 cubic meters of the chilled fuel. Reganosa further said the cargo has been purchased by the Swiss trading company Trafigura.

The operator said that Ferrol is trying to play an important role in the increasing LNG flow that will come to Europe from North America.

Cheniere estimates that the USA will become the third greatest world supplier of LNG in 2020, with a production capacity of 60 million tonnes per year.

Spain will be one of the main receivers of the North American fuel, due to its gas infrastructures and the long term contracts signed by the main Spanish energy companies.

Ferrol and its location in the Atlantic area make Reganosa’s plant the best place to get that flow, the operator’s statement reads.
